Frequently asked questions
When is the best time to visit Machu Picchu?
The dry season, from May to October, offers clear skies and is the most popular time to visit. The rainy season (November to March) brings greener landscapes and fewer visitors.
The classic Inca Trail is closed every February for maintenance.
Do I need my passport to enter Machu Picchu?
Yes. Your original passport is required to enter Machu Picchu and to board the trains, and it must match the information used to book your tickets.
How can I avoid altitude sickness?
Cusco is located at about 3,400 m (11,150 ft) above sea level. We recommend resting on your first day, drinking plenty of water, eating light meals and trying the local coca tea. Many travelers start in the Sacred Valley, which is lower than Cusco.
How far in advance should I book?
Machu Picchu entrance tickets and trains have limited capacity, and Inca Trail permits often sell out months in advance. We recommend booking as early as possible, especially for travel between May and September.
Can you customize a tour for me?
Of course! All our programs are flexible. Tell us your travel dates, interests and budget and we will design a personalized itinerary for you.
